Upholding Labour Rights and Employment Equity for All, Including International Staff

Suan Dusit University (SDU) is committed to promoting labour rights and ensuring equality in all aspects of employment. The University’s human resource management framework is built on the principles of fairness, transparency, and respect for human dignity, guaranteeing that every employee—regardless of gender or nationality—has the right to fair treatment, participation, and representation in the workplace. SDU recognizes that protecting labour rights, including freedom of association and collective bargaining, is essential to achieving decent work and sustainable economic growth in alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 8.

A key policy reflecting this commitment is the University Announcement on Criteria, Procedures, and Conditions for Employment and Salary Adjustment of Foreign Employees under Contract at La-orutis Demonstration School, B.E. 2564 (2021). This regulation establishes a clear and transparent framework governing the employment of international staff, ensuring that recruitment, evaluation, and salary adjustments are conducted based on qualifications, professional competence, experience, and character—free from any form of discrimination. The Director of the Demonstration School is responsible for candidate selection, while the School’s Executive Committee authorizes employment and salary decisions following due process.

According to the regulation, international staff are employed under fixed-term contracts not exceeding one year, with the possibility of renewal when necessary. This system allows flexibility while maintaining fairness and accountability in employment management. The University also maintains a standardized salary structure for foreign employees, ensuring consistency and equity with local staff. In special cases, the Executive Committee may approve higher pay for individuals whose qualifications and expertise significantly contribute to the University’s teaching and learning mission.

This policy demonstrates SDU’s recognition of the rights of international employees and its broader commitment to inclusive and equitable employment. The University strives to provide a work environment that values diversity, prevents discrimination, and supports professional growth for all staff members—Thai and non-Thai alike. Moreover, by providing foreign personnel with fair contracts, transparent performance evaluations, and equitable access to remuneration, SDU reinforces its adherence to international labour standards and human rights principles.

Through this comprehensive approach, Suan Dusit University affirms its dedication to fair labour rights and equitable employment practices. The University’s policies ensure that all employees—women, men, and international staff—work in an environment that upholds dignity, fairness, and equality. This practice not only aligns with the global agenda of decent work but also reflects SDU’s role as a socially responsible institution committed to advancing human rights, ethical governance, and sustainable employment.
