Suan Dusit University’s Anti-Harassment Policy

Suan Dusit University (SDU) is committed to fostering a safe, inclusive, and respectful academic and working environment for all members of its community. The university upholds the principle of human dignity and equality, ensuring that all students, faculty, and staff are protected from all forms of harassment — including sexual harassment, bullying, power harassment, and verbal or physical abuse — across all its operations, activities, and facilities.

Policy Framework and Disciplinary Standards

The university’s preventive and corrective measures against harassment are formally embedded in the

“Regulations of Suan Dusit University on Personnel Administration B.E. 2564 (2021), Chapter 8: Discipline and Code of Conduct.”

This regulation establishes clear ethical and behavioral standards for all university personnel, outlining prohibitions and disciplinary actions related to harassment, as stated below:

Clause 55 (6):

“University employees must not commit any act that constitutes sexual harassment or misconduct toward any staff member of the university.”

Clause 57 (8):

“Sexual harassment against students or trainees shall be regarded as a serious disciplinary offense.”

These provisions demonstrate SDU’s strong stance on zero tolerance for harassment, affirming the institution’s responsibility to enforce disciplinary measures and uphold justice for all individuals within the university community.

Preventive Mechanisms and Institutional Culture

Beyond legal provisions, SDU actively promotes a culture of mutual respect, equality, and non-discrimination through preventive and supportive mechanisms such as:

– Training and awareness programs on prevention of sexual harassment and workplace misconduct for staff and students.

– Safe and confidential reporting channels that ensure transparency, fairness, and protection for complainants.

– Promotion of a “Respectful Workplace” policy and inclusive institutional values that emphasize dignity and equal treatment.

These initiatives aim to cultivate a campus culture that is free from fear, discrimination, or coercion, enabling every member of the SDU community to thrive academically and professionally.

Alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals

The Anti-Harassment Policy at Suan Dusit University represents a core component of the institution’s commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) — specifically:

– SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities, by ensuring fairness, protection, and equal opportunity for all; and

– SDG 5: Gender Equality, by safeguarding the rights, dignity, and well-being of every individual regardless of gender, identity, or background.

Through its proactive enforcement of regulations and promotion of ethical conduct, SDU exemplifies the model of a “University for Equality and Sustainability,” dedicated to human rights protection, transparency, and inclusive governance in higher education.

Suan Dusit University (SDU) upholds a Zero-Tolerance Policy on harassment through its Personnel Administration Regulation B.E. 2564 (2021), Chapter 8, which prohibits all forms of sexual and workplace harassment. Clause 55 (6) forbids sexual misconduct toward colleagues, while Clause 57 (8) defines sexual harassment of students as a serious disciplinary offense. SDU also promotes awareness and training on respectful conduct, provides confidential reporting mechanisms, and fosters an inclusive and safe environment for students, staff, and faculty.
