At the institutional level, Suan Dusit University has established a formal mechanism for staff participation through the University Regulation on the Criteria and Procedures for the Selection of University Council Members (B.E. 2565 [2022]). The regulation stipulates that there shall be two representatives from internal personnel—one from the academic staff and one from the supporting staff—who are selected through nomination and election by university employees themselves. The election is conducted via the SDU e-Vote system, which grants equal voting rights to all employees, civil servants, and contract staff. This process is transparent, inclusive, and verifiable, ensuring equal opportunity and accountability in the representation process.

Following the internal election, the University continued to operate in compliance with applicable laws and regulations. The University Order No. 263/2567 (2024), titled Appointment of the Secretary to the University Council, issued on June 28, 2024, under the authority of the Suan Dusit University Act B.E. 2558 (2015), and in accordance with the University Council’s resolution dated June 24, 2024, officially appointed the Secretary to the University Council to assume duties from July 10, 2024, onward. Although this document is not directly related to “elected representatives,” it serves as an institutional record demonstrating the University’s accountability and continuity in governance operations in accordance with legal frameworks—key elements of strong institutional governance that promote transparency and oversight.

In addition, the University organized the Election of the Personnel Management Committee Members (2024), selecting representatives from both full-time faculty and supporting staff through the SDU e-Vote system on November 25, 2024. The election was presided over by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sukhum Chaloeysub, Chief Advisor to the President, with participation from the University’s administrators, faculty members, and staff. The results of the election were as follows: Asst. Prof. Dr. Suphasiri Boonpraves from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences was elected as the Personnel Management Committee Member representing academic staff, and Mrs. Sookjai Paengprasit was elected as the representative of the supporting staff. This activity reflects the University’s ongoing commitment to cultivating a culture of democratic participation and inclusivity, providing personnel at all levels the opportunity to elect their representatives in decision-making processes related to human resource management. It stands as a clear example of participatory and transparent governance within the institution.
These mechanisms collectively demonstrate that Suan Dusit University maintains an open and fair administrative structure that allows personnel at all levels to participate meaningfully in decision-making processes and institutional policy development. This represents a strong example of participatory and inclusive governance, fostering a balanced relationship between the University’s administration and its internal community, thereby strengthening mutual trust and shared accountability across all sectors.

In terms of student participation, SDU continues to encourage democratic engagement through activities such as the 2024 Student Union Presidential Election, held on September 24, 2024, at the Hua Hin Learning Center. The election saw participation from 150 students, who exercised their right to vote for their representatives. The activity aimed to enhance students’ understanding of democratic principles, civic responsibility, and leadership skills. The elected Student Union President serves as the students’ representative, acting as a liaison with the University’s administration to communicate student perspectives and policy recommendations for institutional and environmental development. This mechanism exemplifies student representation and voice within the University’s governance framework.
Overall, the elected representation systems at Suan Dusit University—comprising faculty, supporting staff, and student representatives—illustrate a robust institutional culture rooted in representation, participation, accountability, and transparency. These mechanisms not only strengthen the connection between the University’s administration and its community but also foster respect for rights, inclusiveness, and equity in decision-making processes. Collectively, they serve as tangible evidence of SDU’s dedication to building a strong, fair, and sustainable institution aligned with the fundamental principles of SDG 16.
