Suan Dusit University: Driving Sustainable and Inclusive Food Choices for All

In 2024, Suan Dusit University (SDU) reaffirmed its commitment to sustainability and well-being through a university-wide mission to promote sustainable and inclusive food choices. Guided by the principles of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 2: Zero Hunger and SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production), the university has integrated sustainability into every aspect of its food services — from ingredient sourcing to menu design and accessibility for all.

Across all campus food outlets — including Dusit Kitchen, Suan Dusit Place Hotel, student cafeterias, and the Café Library — SDU ensures that every meal served supports both human health and the environment. Menus now include vegetarian, plant-based, low-sugar, and locally sourced dishes, catering to the nutritional needs of students and staff, especially those with dietary restrictions.

One of the most notable examples is Café Library – One World Library, a wellness café designed to promote healthy living and mindful consumption. The café offers “Healthy Drink Alternatives”, such as plant-based milk beverages, low-sugar options, and drinks made from natural ingredients. To ensure accessibility, all students receive a 10% discount — a reflection of SDU’s belief in “Healthy and Affordable Choices for All.”

Beyond the café, SDU has expanded sustainable dining practices to Suan Dusit Place Hotel and student cafeterias, making sustainable food choices available across the entire campus. This initiative demonstrates the university’s comprehensive and inclusive approach to campus well-being.

To uphold accountability and transparency, SDU publicly provides evidence of implementation — including campaign photos, project reports, and healthy menu documentation — through official platforms such as the SDU website, the SDG Drive, and the Café Library page. These open-access resources ensure that SDU’s achievements can be verified by the public, fulfilling the requirements of THE Impact Rankings for evidence provided and public availability.

Through these integrated efforts, Suan Dusit University continues to serve as a model higher-education institution that unites sustainability, health, and inclusivity — inspiring a new generation to eat well, live sustainably, and care for the planet.
