Suan Dusit University (SDU) is committed to promoting equality, accessibility, and inclusivity across all dimensions of university life. In alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 10: Reduced Inequalities, the university has implemented a comprehensive Reasonable Accommodation Policy to ensure that all students, staff, and visitors — including persons with disabilities and the elderly — can fully participate in academic, social, and professional activities on campus.
This policy is operationalized through the university’s adoption of Universal Design principles, ensuring that physical spaces, learning environments, and campus services are designed to be inclusive, equitable, and user-friendly for everyone.
Principles of Universal Design at SDU
SDU’s facilities are developed and renovated under the concept of “Design for All”, emphasizing accessibility and usability for all groups without discrimination. The implementation is guided by four key principles:
1. Equitability – All individuals can use university facilities equally, without segregation or discrimination. For instance, ramps, handrails, and accessible pathways are provided for wheelchair users, children, and the elderly to ensure smooth and safe mobility throughout campus.
2. Simplicity and Understanding – Clear, simple, and universally recognizable signage (including Braille and international symbols) facilitates navigation for users of all literacy levels and language backgrounds.
3. Safety – The university employs warning tactile surfaces at stairs, crossings, and doorways to alert visually impaired users to potential hazards, ensuring a safe and inclusive physical environment.
4. Energy Conservation (Effortless Accessibility) – Facilities such as large elevator buttons, automatic doors, and ergonomically designed workspaces minimize physical effort, providing convenience and independence to all users.
การจัดสิ่งอำนวยความสะดวกและการเข้าถึงที่เท่าเทียม
มหาวิทยาลัยสวนดุสิตได้ดำเนินการปรับปรุงอาคารและสถานที่ต่าง ๆ ให้เป็นมิตรกับผู้พิการและผู้สูงวัย อาทิ
– ทางลาด ลิฟต์ ห้องน้ำ และที่จอดรถสำหรับผู้พิการ
– ป้ายอักษรเบรลล์และพื้นผิวเตือน
– ห้องปฏิบัติการเฉพาะทางและอุปกรณ์เทคโนโลยีสนับสนุนการเรียนรู้สำหรับผู้พิการ
นอกจากนี้ มหาวิทยาลัยยังได้จัดสรรงบประมาณสนับสนุนบุคลากร เทคโนโลยี และครุภัณฑ์ทางการศึกษา เพื่อส่งเสริมการจัดการศึกษาพิเศษอย่างมีประสิทธิภาพ

ผลลัพธ์ของการดำเนินงาน
นโยบาย “Reasonable Accommodation” ของมหาวิทยาลัยสวนดุสิตส่งผลให้นักเรียนและนักศึกษาพิการจำนวน 119 คน และบุคลากรผู้พิการจำนวน 22 คน สามารถเรียนรู้ ทำงาน และใช้ชีวิตในมหาวิทยาลัยได้อย่างมีความสุข ปลอดภัย และมีศักดิ์ศรีเท่าเทียมกับบุคคลทั่วไป รวมถึงผู้ใช้งานพื้นที่ภายในมหาวิทยาลัยกว่า 15,000 คน ได้รับประโยชน์จากพื้นที่และสิ่งอำนวยความสะดวกที่ออกแบบอย่างเป็นสากล
การดำเนินการนี้สะท้อนให้เห็นถึงบทบาทของ SDU ในฐานะ “มหาวิทยาลัยแห่งความเสมอภาคและความยั่งยืน (University for Equality and Sustainability)” ที่ไม่เพียงมุ่งให้บริการทางการศึกษาเท่านั้น แต่ยังสร้างระบบนิเวศการเรียนรู้ที่เอื้อให้ “ไม่มีใครถูกทิ้งไว้ข้างหลัง (Leave No One Behind)”
